James Tighe and his wife Mary McHale are my 3x gr. grandparents. Their names are found in Rathmore, Mayo, when their daughter Dorothy is baptized in 1831 (Crossmolina RC Church records); and again with an unnamed child in 1838. We have also found two records of James Tighe in the Tithe Applotment Books, 1833, in Rathmore.
There are two (unsubstantiated) stories about James Tighe. One is that he died and then his widow Mary McHale came to Ontario,Canada with their children. The other is that he died on the ship on the way over and was buried at sea. He has definitely died by the time of a church census in Kingston, Ontario in 1844, where his wife, "widow Tygue" is listed with their four children -- Ann, Dorothy, Mary, and Jane.
