James Henry Warner left Ireland and sought a new life in Australia perhaps lured by promised wealth of the Victorian goldfields. Later, James settled in Queensland where he married Isabella Wilson in 1876 and established a successful police career. He died at the age of 72 in 1912. Described as ‘from a respectable family, a well conducted and an acceptable young man’ James had the courage to imagine the possibilities of a new life and the strength to live the life he imagined.
