Jane was born in Roscommon in April 1834.
She was working as a Servant in Manchester in 1851 census.
She married John Howe in November 1854 in Manchester - her father is named as Patrick Dufficy, a labourer.

She obviously travelled with the British Army as her son John Joseph was born in Karachi, India in 1860. We think there were two babies born between 1855 and 1859 as she told her family she had "1 short of a span" i.e. 15 children... we have records of 13 of these.
Daughter Mary Jane was born in Roscommon, Ireland in 1862 and daughter Eliza was born in Natal, South Africa in 1864 - all of this ties up with the movement of her husbands regiment.
The rest of her children were born in Umhloti or Stanger, Natal, South Africa between 1866 and 1878.
Jane died in Stanger in May 1911.

The Howe family home in Stanger was called Crofton Lodge so we think she may have been born near the estate which has this name in Roscommon.
