Jane McDonnell (McDonald) was born in 1838 in Kilglass, County Sligo to Charles Alexander McDonnell and Bridget Doherty. She and her family emigrated circa 1847, first to Canada, then to Philadelphia where she met and married her husband, Terence Quinn. The family eventaully moved to Perth Amboy, New Jersey. Her uncle, Patrick Doherty, left Kilglass about 1860 and settled in Honesdale, Pennsylvania.
