Mary Jane was known as Jennie. She emigrated to New York City with her brother John. She raised her family on the west side of Manhattan in the neighbourhood known as Hell's Kitchen.
She and her family were members of the Church of Ireland and later the Episcopal Church in the US. Her brother John also married in New York City but after his death his wife and daughter moved to Bermuda where his wife's brother was living.
