Jeremiah Twohig N.T. was born in January 1851 to Pat Twohig and Ellen Sullivan of Illaneinigh, Inchigeelagh, Co. Cork. His baptism is recorded in the Inchigeelagh/Iveleary RC Parish with the date 29 January 1851.

After finishing his national school education in Inchigeelagh, Jeremiah pursued further studies in teacher training in Co. Dublin at the Glasnevin Model Farm Institute. Upon qualification, he returned to Cork and lived in Kilmore, Ballingeary, where he taught and served as principal at the Ballingeary National School.

He married Margaret O'Leary (b. 1855) in 1877. Jeremiah and Margaret had several children before Margaret's passing in 1900.

Jeremiah is recorded in the 1901 and 1911 census in Kilmore, Bealanageary as a widowed national teacher with fluency in Irish and English. He passed away on 13 September 1928 at the age of 77. He is buried in the Old Inchigeelagh Graveyard with his late wife, Margaret.
