BIRTH

Johanna Fynn (Finn) was born to parents unknown as of 2021. She was born about 1807, a calculation from the year of birth of her first child. As of 2021, her birthplace was unknown.

MARRIAGE AND FAMILY

She married Hugh Crean about 1830, and probably in her hometown. She may have lived in County Kerry at that time. Hugh and Johanna had a family of at least seven children as of research through 2021. Their first two children were born in 1831 and 1833. Catholic parish baptismal records for them reported their births in Knockglass Townland in Civil Parish Kilgobban in Catholic Parish Cappaclogh (Annascaul). The Diocese was Ardfert and Aghadoe (Kerry). One son, Martin Crean, married Ellen Dowd. Another son, Patrick Crean, married Catherine Courney, and their son Thomas became a Polar Explorer. These sons, Patrick and Martin, were married in Roman Catholic parishes according to their marriage records. A daughter, Catherine, married Philip Griffin, and three of their daughters immigrated to Connecticut.

DEATH

Johanna Fynn Crean died about 1874 in Knockglass Beg Townland, Kilgobban Civil Parish, Corkaquiney Barony, Cappaclogh Catholic Parish, County Kerry, Ireland. It was documented in 1851 that her husband owned a house in Knockglass Beg. She died after her husband's 1873 death since he was married at the time of death. Since, in the same townland, Hugh (T Crean) and Johanna (Nano) were listed in the Census 1901, and not this Johanna Fynn Crean, she probably died before 1901.

BURIAL

As of 2021, the location of the gravesite of Johanna Fynn Crean had not been found. It was speculated that Johanna and Hugh Crean may have been buried in Kilgobbin Graveyard. Although it was affiliated with the Church of Ireland, Roman Catholics were also buried there since they required sacred ground for burials of the baptized. It was also speculated that Johanna and Hugh Crean may have been buried in the Rathduff Graveyard.
