John J. Barrett (1888 -1968) of Carrickmore, Boyle was the son of Anne Callaghan & Matthew Barrett of Ballinvilla, Croghan.
- The 1901 Census records the Barretts with the largest house and farmyard in Carrickmore. Their house had a slate roof with 5 windows to the front (when all homes in Ballinvilla were still thatched). They also had a stable, a coach house, two cow houses, a calf house, a dairy, piggery and a barn.
His older brother, Patrick Barrett (1886-1967) lived in Carickmore with him and never married. His sister, Mary Anne Barrett married CLARKE (the proprietor of Clarke's Bar Boyle).
In 1968, he died at age 80 with his daughter son Catherine Barrett Keenan of Carrickmore present at death. He was interred in the Boyle Barret plot at Killappoge Graveyard, Croghan.
