John Egan was the son of Michael Egan and Margaret Mahon of Bolag, Woodford, and the grandson of James Egan and Mary Kelly, and James Mahon and Mary Mulvihill. He was born 13 Aug 1907, at Woodford. He sailed off to find his fortunes in the US in 1927 on the ship Bremmen. On 8 October 1934, he married Margaret "Madge" McSweeny who was from Mallow, County Cork. He served in WW II as a Private 1st Class in the US Army. He became a naturalized US Citizen in the 1930s.
