John Gideon Ouseley Fraser was born March 17, 1840 at Bantry, County Cork, Ireland.
He was the fourth child of Edward Fraser and Margaret Connor who were married February 11, 1831 at Bantry.
Edward and Margaret left Ireland with their children in 1847 and settled in Surrey, England. John was apprenticed to William Johnson as a Letterpress Printer in 1855 in London. He was the forerunner of four generations in the Printing Industry spaning 160 years.
John married Elizabeth Terrey in November 22, 1862. In 1873 John was invited to take on the managership of the Otago Daily Times in New Zealand. After four years he left this position and took on several roles as editor and owner of several printing companies retiring eventually to Christchurch.
He was appointed President of The Baptist Union of New Zealand at 70 years of age. He died April 25, 1920.
