Place of migration
Migrated to/Born in USA

He was born in County Cavan, Ireland. Possibly in Larah Parish or Bailieborough. USA 1900 census lists his birth month and year as March, 1870. Other records list his birth year as 1871. I believe he was born in 1870.

He immigrated to the USA, possibly through Canada, in 1888. He had 4 sisters, Kate, Bessie, Mary, and Margaret, as well as 2 brothers, 1 of which may be Owen. According to family records, Mary paid for his immigration. Family info stated he was an indentured servant. The 2 brothers didn't immigrate. I believe he may have been Naturalized in 1896, the same year he married Caroline Alice Lewis Clark, in Greece, N.Y., USA.

My Grandfather dropped the "e" off his name in the US. He was a farmer and worked with standard bred race horses. My father did the same, along with other occupations. Possible names for his parents would be John G. Clarke/Clark, Sr., possibly from Bailieborough, and Mary Smith/Smyth from Carrikmacromin. All I want to do is honor my Grandfather by having it as correct as possible. I'm having trouble getting info on him through My Heritage, not because of lack of resources, it's a decent site, but because of the fires during his birth and childhood years.

Records state he died in 1947 in Greece, N.Y., but Grandma documented herself as head of household and widowed, on the 1940 census. I believe she was from the era where she wouldn't have done that if my Grandfather was alive, however, she also listed 2 grandsons as granddaughters on the same form.
