John Greer (1792-1881) came to Canada around 1842 with spouse Bridget Conboy (1995-1882) and family including son John Greer (1826-1915). Family oral tradition and census records indicate that the family came from Sligo or Connaught. They successfully settled and thrived in South Sherbrooke Township in Ontario. John and Bridget (also called Bessey in one census) were reported as unable to read in one census, so likely came from very humble beginnings. The census identifies them as affiliated with the Church of England or the Methodist Church.
