Born in 1816, John left Roscommon County in 1838 traveling to the USA. He worked for a firm of lawyers in Maryland connected to the B&O Railroad, traveling a regular route in West Virginia as a clerk and bill collector. He married Maria Brennan (originally from Kerry County) and bought a small farm, working it until his death in 1879.
