My husbands 2 x great grandfather was, according to ancestry, born in Donegal in 1821

He had an affair with Margaret Rainey, a girl from the south. Their families disowned them and he sent her to canada pregnant with their son, John promised to follow and did a few months later but became gravely ill on the crossing and died in a military hospital in Canada shortly after arriving there.

It is unclear whether Margaret found him there but she named her son John Rainey taking her fathers surname.

My husband has always been deeply proud of his Irish roots and always wondered about the Oneill connection and the name John Jack Black Oneill. Where did the jack black hail from, who was he and who is his family. We cannot find any birth records for him or any other family member.
