  • I am trying to find information on my Great-Grandfather John Condon, this is all of the information that I have:

John Lawrence Condon was born in County Cork, His obit says the name of the town where he was born was Caste-Line. He was a farmer who did not read or write and I am guessing his wife mis-heard the name of the town. I couldn’t find any such town. Castlelyons is the closest sounding name I could find in Cork. . I have found his birthdate listed as 1836, 1838(on his headstone) and 1841 in different U.S. census in Illinois. He may have had an older brother or cousin, Lawrence John Condon, who live in the same town as John, served in the same regiment in The U.S. Civil War and is buried in the same cemetery.

John married Delia Smith in 1899 in Illinois and lived in the town of Marengo Illinois when he passed away in 1908. He immigrated to the U.S. from Ireland in 1860
