John McAuliff : Short Biography

Private John McAuliff is my second great grandfather.  He was born in Cork in 1839.  He emigrated to Boston, MA on 6/22/1850.  He became a US citizen on 9/11/1854.  He married Ellen Harris Moriarty on 1/19/1857.  When the US Civil War broke out, he was among the first men to enlist, serving as a private in the Massachusetts Infantry on behslf of the Union from 1861-1863.  

He died in an accident in Danvers, Massachusetts on 2/12/1871.  He is buried in Danvers, MA.  Private McAuliff was the son of Lawrence McAuliff and Mary Murphy.  Lawrence was born in Cork in 1833 but died in Boston, MA in 1892.  I know even less about his mother, Mary Murphy McAuliff except that she was born in Ireland around 1805.
