Born about 1816 in County Derry (unknown parish) and died in New Brunswick (probably Petersville) during the 1870s. Migrated to Canada in 1835 (census data). Married Sarah Doherty (born about 1820 in Derry, Ireland, died 1892 in St John's New Brunswick, Canada) in New Brunswick about 1838; they had 12 children: William, Mary Jane, Margaret, John Jr., Margery, Eleanor, Sarah, Andrew, Joseph, Charles, Elizabeth and Francis. John was a tenant farmer in the Petersville area (now Gagetown Military Base). There are no exisitng death records, but their last child was born in 1871, and he was dead by the 1881 census. There were many McBeaths in the Petersville area, but we have not yet established siblings, cousins, etc.
