John McGrath (last name may have been spelled MaGrath in Ireland but by the time they arrived in Canada it was definately spelled McGrath) was born on 1795 in Kilworth, Mallow County, Cork, Ireland.  He was baptised July 2, 1797 at St Mary's in Cork City.  His parents were Thomas McGrath and mother was Mary.  He married Ellen who was born in approximately 1820.  John and Ellen had two children who were born in Ireland.  Their first son was John McGrath (jr) who was born in 1821 in Kilworth, Cork.  Their second son was Redmond McGrath who was born in 1824 in Kilworth, Cork.  John and Ellen and their two sons, John and Redmond left Ireland on May 11th, 1825 from Core of Cork, Ireland.  (According to US & Canada Passenger & Immigration Lists Index 1500-1900)  The four of them sailed on the Brunswick for Canada.  Their final destination was Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.  At the time of sailing, wife Ellen was 25 years old, Son John was 4 years old, and son Redmond was 1 year old according to ship records.  After arriving in Canada, John and Ellen had two more children:  David was born in 1827 in Ontario, and Johanna was born in Dummer, Peterborough in 1830.  John (Sr) was living with his son Redmond in 1871 according to Canada Cencus.  According to records I could find he died on March 31, 1876 in Peterborough, Canada.
