Back to List

My great grandfather John McKin /McKee lost his farm in the potato famine of 1850s. He joined the British army  and was sent to India where he and his wife spent the rest of their lives. After leaving the army he became the warden at St Pauls school, Darjeeling whilst his wife was the matron.Their daughter Ada, my grandmother married a newly arrived English teacher Reginald Thomas in 1898 and their first child, Charles Reginald Thomas, my father, was born in 1899. Ada and Reginald eventually had 5 children all born in UK during leave times although their whole working life was spent in India or some cities now in Pakistan. They retired back to UK in 1930s where their adult children all lived.

This is all I know about John McKin /Mckee and his wife.I have contacted the school in Darjeeling for information without success.
