John married an English immigrant in Australia in 1849 and had 12 children between 1851 and 1872. On his children's birth registrations he variously indicated that he was from Ireland or New Orleans. His children, in birth order, were Edward, John, Alfred, James, Thomas, Elizabeth, Clement, John, Reuben, Ada, Ellen and Richard. No documents in Australia have any record of his parent's name. There were a number of John McManuses in Australia at the same time, and I have not been able to identify how my John McManus came to be in Australia at that time.
