I am research my family’s genealogy before a trip to Ireland. I have been unable to locate anything on my great great grandfather. I recently found his obituary which states is was from Croom.

My understanding is he changed the spelling from Moylan to Milan. He married Margaret O’Connell in Sept 1849, moved to London soon after. They had their first child in London before departing to the United States in July 1851. Would love to connect with any Moylan to see if there is a connection. I have been unable to find siblings or parents.

Obituary for John Milan (d.1899)
DEATH OF JOHN MILAN.
An Old Settler Passes Away -- Sketch of His Life.
John Milan died at his home at 8:30 o'clock Sunday evening, aged 90 years, of general debility. Mr. Milan's health for several years past has not been robust, and for the last six months he has been quite feeble. For about a week previous to his passing away he was confined more or less to his bed. He was unconscious ten or twelve hours before his death. There were present at his dying bedside his wife, his sons, Dennis and Thomas, and his daughter, Mrs. Delia Cassidy. Until the final illness Mr. Milan was able, despite his many years, to do light work about the premesis.
Among those who called on him Sunday was Rev. Father Tonello, who offered prayers in his behalf and who had previously administered the last sacraments.

Mr. Milan was a native of Croom County, Limerick, Ireland, and grew to manhood in that country. He was married there to Margaret O'Connell in 1849. They came to America in 1851 and settled in Lebanon, NY, where for four years he was in the employ of the Tilden brothers. They came to Galesburg in 1854. Mr. Milan began farming for himself in Henderson, where he resided until the year 1866. He then moved to a farm in Warren County purchased by himself. Sixteen years after, he sold out there and moved back to Henderson Township and bought a farm which he owned until his death. He moved to Galesburg in March of 1891. He first built a home on Mulberry Street which he afterwards sold, and then built a residence on the corner of Knox and Liberty Street.

Mr. Milan was a member of St. Patrick's Church and was a sincere Christian. He had an extensive acquaintance, especially in Henderson Township, and was highly esteemed. He lived a quiet, peaceful, useful and honorable life. In his home life he made his wife his confidant and assistant in all matters of business, turning over to her keeping the money which came into his hands, and the money thus saved and wisely invested made a handsome competence for them. She survives him and speaks in the kindest terms of him as a husband and father. Had he lived until next month they would have celebrated their golden wedding. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Milan: Lizzie, John, William, James, Delia, Maggie, Dennis and Thomas. Of these John, William and Maggie are deceased. He also leaves seven grandchildren -- John Cassady, Mary Cassady, Katie Cassady, Helen Milan, John Milan, Margaret Milan and William Milan.
The funeral service will be held at St. Patrick's Church at 9:30 o'clock tomorrow morning.
