John O'Keefe

Back to List

My father's mother's brother John O'Keefe died 16 March 1913 at the Workhouse, Ennis, County Clare. Prior to his time spent in the workhouse he lived with and worked for his brother Hugh O'Keefe, his wife and 3 sons and 2 daughters at his farm at Furroor, Sorrel Island, County Clare, as listed in the Census of 1901. His occupation was given as Farm Servant. He spoke Irish and English. His religion was Roman Catholic and he could read and write. He never married. The cause of death is stated as bronchitis. I do not know when he was admitted to the workhouse.
He was the son of Michael O'Keefe 1815-1865, a farmer, and Susan 'Suzy' Griffen of Castle Park, Parish of Kilmihil, County Clare.
