Kate (Catherine) Murray was born in 1862, the third daughter of Michael Murray and Anne Ward, in Ballynacargy. 

One of 10 known siblings, Kate emigrated to New York City in the 1880s.  She never married and at the time of her death in 1942, her occupation was housekeeper. 

On the 1940 U.S. Federal Census she is shown as head of a rooming house. She is pictured in the below photo (c. 1915) with two of her nieces, Margie and Anna Shelby (the daughters of her sister Mary Murray and John Shelby) of New York.

  • To Canne who was looking for Murry-Ward in Ballynacargy, Westmeath.. I am soory that I don't have any information on the Ward family, only that Kate Gaynor married a James Ward according  Kate's funeral notice. She died 25 Nov 1971 aged 85 years. Her obituary mentioned that she lived at Ballintue and had 4 daughters and 3 sons, but I have never had any luck with anyone contacting me who are Kate and James Ward's descendants. Also, I cannot find a marriage for Kate and James, and Kate's death certificate does not appear on the Civil Records that are free online
