Migrated to/Born in USA

Luke Shannon was son of Patrick Shannon and Mary Pidgeon. He had one brother James, born about 1827, and three sisters Ann (1836), Ellen (1833), and Bridget (1834) that we know of. The siblings migrated in the 1840s and 1850s to Northampton, Massachusetts, USA and they all married there, where there was a large Irish immigrant community. Luke went to Staffordshire County, UK sometime before 1851 (he appears there in that year's UK census) and in 1852 married Mary Commons, daughter of Patrick Commons and Margaret O'Malley (believed to be Irish immigrants to UK).

Luke, his wife and 3 sons emigrated to Northampton, Massachusetts in 1864 and he went to work in the local silk mill (family members already worked there). They had five more surviving children in the US.

Luke and James both applied for US citizenship and gave Baslick as their home town in Ireland. James was naturalized as a citizen but no naturalization papers have been found for Luke.

We have found very little on their parents Patrick Shannon and Mary Pidgeon (a rather unusual name), other than their names on the children's death certificates. Hoping to trace back further in Ireland.
