Margaret was the daughter of Alexander and Elizabeth (nee Woods) Doyle of Laheen South. She was a Queensland Justice of the Peace, playing an active role in her community of Wynnum as an Australian citizen. She read widely, and remained well-informed about the unfolding twentieth century Irish political situation as a staunch supporter of Eire. She would reminisce about the green of Ireland, the beauty of landscape and the sophistication of the literature, music and civil society of the country of her birth. She did not have the opportunity to realise her desire to return home.
