Margaret "Maggie" Teresa McLoughlin, born in Newport Co. Tipperary to Michael McLoughlin and Catherine (nee Kennedy). She emigrated to Sydney Australia in 1878 on the Lochee. Her occupation was listed as a teacher but she found work as a servant in Great Western, Victoria.

Originally planned to travel with her brother John McLoughlin, but John stayed behind and continued with the family bakery business with his father.

She was sponsored to Australia by Francis Kennedy (uncle? or cousin?).

She married John O'Brien, a Vic Rail ganger originally from Co. Clare, in Ararat, Vic 1880  with whom she had 8 children. (her 1st born were twins, Michael Patrick and Mary Ellen).

John O'Brien died in 1892 leaving her with 8 children under the age of 11. He is buried in the Melbourne Cemetery, Parkville, Vic.

In 1896 she remarried William Doyle, another Vic Rail employee.... they had no children.

Maggie Doyle died of a heart condition in Mar 1914 and is buried in the Seymour Pioneer Cemetery.

William Doyle died in 1928 and is buried in Mooroopna, Vic.

  • Another Margaret Mc  or O Loughlin came to Victoria in 1852  Both Mc and O used in her documents

    Born 1806 in Newport, 

    As a widow with a son, she met and married PatrickO'Halloran from Clare ,in Cape Colony South Africa.--the son  Michael Murphy remained in SA.

    Patrick and Margaret travelled to Melbourne in 1852, and farmed near Wangaratta Victoria- no children

    A beneficiary of Patricks will, was Brigid  Oloughlin Egan of Northcote Melbourne in 1902- said to be the niece of Margaret
