Migrated to/Born in USA

We have a diary indicating that sibilings Martin J O'Donnell (born 1860) and Julia (born 1868) left Clogheen, Co. Tipperary on 8/24/1888 and made their way to NYC to meet their brother John O'Donnell (born 1859) and an 'Aunt Kate.'  Before moving to America, Julia attended school in the Brigidine Convent in Tullow, Co. Carlow and became a nun in America. Likewise, John O'Donnell was a priest. Martin is my direct ancestor.

Martin, Julia and John O'Donnell

Since I find a marriage record of their parents Thomas O'Donnell and Julia Dolan marrying in Galway in 1855 and my DNA test does not highlight the Tipperary region, I do not believe my O'Donnell family was native to co. Tipperary, but I have been unsuccessful in finding other records.

Additional Information
Date of Birth 1st Nov 1860
Date of Death 1st Jan 1912

  • The O'Donnell name is associated with Co. Donegal, my mother was O'Donnell from Co. Roscommon the family believes the association goes back to the 15th. century when an O'Donnell from Donegal wonded in the battle of the Curlews stayed in Roscommon to recover, married a local woman and stayed in Roscommon.
