Martin McLouglin was born about 1842. Believed to be the son of Patrick and Bridget McLoughlin, it's not known exactly where he was born. He first appears in Hollymount, married to Mary O'Gorman, when their first child Patrick is born in 1865. Son Anthony followed in 1866, Mary in 1868, and John in 1869.
Then they started moving south, with Bridget born in Togherbeg, Killererin, Galway in 1871. Following her was Susan, born in Turloughmore in 1873, and Martin, born in Gort in 1875. By 1877, they'd moved further south to Fenloe, Newmarket on Fergus, Clare. Born here were Robert in 1877, Edward in 1878, William in 1880. In 1882, daughter Helena was born in Limerick, before the family moved on to Dalkey, Dublin, where the last two were born: Walter in 1886 and Eva in 1887.
Martin was involved with horses, reported as a coachman, groom, and eventually a horse dealer. Sometime after their last child was born, much of the family moved to Aldershot, England, where Martin was engaged in dealing horses to the British Army. Mary died in Aldershot in 1894, and Martin left for Toronto, Canada, where he died in 1908.
Martin had at least two sisters: Mary, born in 1841, and Susan, born in 1844. Susan married Robert Power and they lived in Dublin, where they had a son, Robert Francis Power. Robert Francis became a Carmelite priest and died in Australia, where he was the head of the order there. Mary married someone named Egan, but little else is known so far.
