Mary Ann Marmion was born December of 1842 in Skibbereen, Cork. She was raised by Bridget Cahalane of Shreelane, Kilmacabea, Cork, who was the widow of John Cahalane, of Clounkeen, Cork.
Bridget came to America in 1854, to join her grown children here, settling in Staunton, Virginia. In America, their name became Callahan, probably due to misspelling. She brought young Mary Ann with her, & she became Mary Ann Callahan. They had relatives in Binghamton, NY also.
I don't know who Mary Ann's mother was, but her father was one of the Marmion of Skibbereen.
