Mary Anne Crowe, born circa 1825, of Kilnoe in Tomgraney, ( Tuamgraney) County Clare Ireland. She was later known in America as Marion Crowe. She has an intriguing family history. It relates to her father being an officer in the English army and the grandson of the Duke of Ormond and an uncle who was the Count D'Alton of the Austrian Army. I have not found the primary documents for the information to support these purported facts from the crumbling obituary of her eldest daughter, printed in an unknown newspaper in 1903.  In more than a few documents it is stated that Mary Anne Crowe was born in Spain, Gibraltar or France.

Daniel Malone and Mary Anne were married in August of 1849 in the Diocese of Killaloe. They had six known children, all born in Ireland. The 1870 Census of Washington DC clearly shows this. Because of that we have determined that Daniel and Mary Anne emigrated after the birth of Patrick Henry Denison Malone baptised in 1863 and before June of 1870. That census shows that Daniel and Mary Anne owned a home worth 1800 dollars and the value of their personal estate was 100 dollars. Back then, it was a great deal especially for Irish immigrants. They all spoke English and all of them could read and write.

  • Hello:

Do you have the baptism records for the children?  If not, the Kilnoe parish registers are online through the Clare Library.
