  • My grandfather Martin Tehan was born in 1832 in County Offaly (Kings  County) and died in 1903 in St Louis,MO.  His father was John Tehan and mother was Catherine (Kitty)  Bannon.  If she was 30 at his birth, she would have been born around 1802?  They lived in County Offaly, Kilcolman parish and Monafada townland.  I would love to find her siblings, parents or other family.

  • John Tehan & Catherine Bannon had three sons, Martin Tehan, Patrick Teehan an Cornelius Teehan.  Patrick married and stayed in Ireland.  Cornelius stayed in Ireland but never married.  Martin & Patrick married sisters.  Martin married Winifred Leonard and Patrick married Anne Leonard.  Pronunciation of last names remained the same but somewhere spellings changed with the Irish clan containing an additional letter e.  Pronunciation: "tee-en".

  • Kilcolman is about 5.5 miles from Shinrone.  Based on location and the Bannon surname, Catherine may be an Aunt (or cousin 1x removed) from John Bannon given her estimated birth year as 1802.  I cannot find a marriage between a Tehan and Bannon, not unusual given the poor state of Ireland records.  My comment about John Bannon born in Westmeath is incorrect.  I suspect Shinrone which I visited last summer.
