  • In an effort to try and find my great-grandmother Catherine CURLEY, supposedly born Loughrea around 1860, I came across a Mary DELANEY apparently born 1820 Claddagh, Galway, Galway in 1820.The Irish routinely under-estimated their age by up to 10 years. She spent time in New York and had children there but had come back to Galway by 1901 and died there September 1911. I realise that this differs from the Death that you have but there are so many contradictions in this lady's story that I wonder if it is possible that they are one and the same?

I can find no records anywhere for my Catherine CURLEY anywhere but DNA results led to my research of LYNCHS who moved between the Loughrea area and Galway Town.

The Mary DELANEY that I have researched had a LYNCH connection but not I think to "my" LYNCHs.

Are you on Ancestry ? You can find the Mary DELANEY that I've researched on my Tree there McCormack or Cormican, Rabbit - New Upload

  • Good morning Mary,

I don't think is " my" Mary Delaney as I know with certainty that after she emmigrated from Ireland ( she was a child) she never left Pennsylvania where she died after raising a large family. I am curious though that there's a small chance that her paternal gandmother was named Mary Delaney. I have not had luck tracking down her father John Delaney. he seems to have disappereared. I am assuming he died since his wife, Mary McDermott remairred as a young woman then emigrated from Galway to Pennsylvania. I will check out your website, I am on ancestry. My tree is under Ann Caulfield.

Did you do your own DNA geneaology research or did you have expert help with that. I am at a sold road block with my Caulfield side and my last hope is DNA. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Ann
