Migrated to/Born in Australia

A quandary, my maternal ancestor, Mary Donohoe was a convict transported to Australia in 1839 and born around 1814/17.

On the convict indents she says she was born in Donegal, Ireland around 1817. However she was convict of stealing money from her employer a shopkeeper at Claranbridge in 1838 and the Gaol register at the time says she was born around 1814. My question is that seems a long way from Donegal of the convict indents and is it more likely that she was born in Galway. Further luckily, I have found an entry for Mary Donohoe at Castle Ellen Townland in the 1821 census age 5, which puts a birth of that Mary in 1816. Mary convict could neither read nor write. Any thoughts Donegal or Galway?

Thanks

Wal
