Mary Donovan born circa 1846 Fermoy Cork area. Her father on marriage certificate was John Donovan Gardiner Fermoy. Married John Sweeney in Fermoy workhouse chapel April 1874. They had their first child Bridget in 1875 Cork. Birth certificate state Kate Donovan was present at the birth in Grange Fermoy.
John was in the British Army stationed for a short time in Fermoy and Haulbowline. They then travelled to India with the army. One child John Sweeney was born 1876 in Madras India, another Mary was born at sea in 1878. John left the army in 1878 but settled back in Haslingden Lancashire where they had more children.
The picture is of Mary Sweeney nee Donovan in her later years with my grandmother on her knee aged about three my grandmother was born in 1911.
