Maire Eamonn Moriarty grew up in Glenearagh,St. Finian's Bay, Co Kerry.
She was born to Eamonn Moriarty and Ellen Sugrue in 1835, the oldest of 6 children.
Before The Famine, the local landlord Charles O'Connell was dividing his property in
Moyrisk and Glenearagh.He gave emplyment to the local men to build the walls.
As a 12 year old girl Maire got a job of drawing stones to the men for one penny a day.
She and other youngsters made a few bob out of the work. She married John Leary a widower
in Feb1860 and came to Ballynabloun.She took on the role of step-mother to his 4 daughters.
She also became mother to seven boys.Only one stayed home, all the others emigrated to Bridgeport,
Conn,U.S.A. She was a loving grandmother to nine Leary/O'Leary children in Ballynabloun.She died in March 1915 aged 80.
A woman who survived the famine , a sister, mother, step-mother, aunt, grandmother and neighbour and
my paternal great grandmother.May she reap the reward of her hard work
