I am looking for a marriage or other information about Mary Gallagher - who married Patrick (Pat) Murphy, date and information unknown.

Mary Gallagher Murphy is one of 3 daughters of Hugh Gallagher. Her sisters were Ann Gallagher and Margaret Gallagher.

Mary Gallagher Murphy came to the US in 1882-1884.

I cannot find any information about Patrick Murphy, my great-grandfather.  He is the MYSTERY MAN. He is not in any of the US census data, however, Mary Gallagher Murphy is in the 1890 and 1900 census records.  I cannot find his passage to the US and wonder if he died in Ireland.  If I could find a marriage record, perhaps I could do more research on him.  I am interested to see if there are any death records.

The only record I have of Pat Murphy is as father of Mary Murphy, my grandmother, in her Baptismal record.  The daughter of Mary Gallagher and Pat Murphy, Mary Murphy, my grandmother, was baptized 1st of March, 1869.  The sponsors were Eugene Murphy and Bridget Murphy - perhaps brother and sister of Patrick Murphy?

The Baptism record says Achill R.C. Baptisms Vol. 1 Page 15.  It does not give a Church name.  Perhaps the marriage of Mary Gallagher and Pat (Patrick) Murphy might also be in Achill, same Church where their Mary was baptized?

Additional Information

  • My great grandmother was Ann Gallagher, daughter of Hugh Gallagher, who married Bartley Maughan in Killala, County Mayo. Do you have a tree you could share? It sounds like we might be related? My email is taemory@hotmail.com

  • I was excited to see this posting which I did several years ago.   I have more information since that posting.

Sorry, I don't think we have the same Gallagher family.   My Mary Gallagher married Pat Murphy and lived in Achill Parish, County Mayo.  She did have a sister Ann Gallagher but Ann married a Lavelle (I think) and lived in Cleveland, OH as far as I know.   There was another sister, Margaret who married a Joyce and I know she lived in Cleveland, OH.   My Mary Gallagher parents were Hugh Gallagher and Bridget Corrigan.   Mary's husband, Pat Murphy died in 1882 and was buried in Ireland.  She was a widow with 5 children and was selected to be part of the Tuke Emigration Project.  Mr. Tuke, a Quaker, wanted the poor Irish children to be educated and have a better life.   She arrived in Canada and was transported - again by Tuke - to Cleveland.  Mr. Tuke raised funds and paid for their ship passage as well as clothing for everyone for the long, cold voyage.  Quite an amazing story.  His project lasted for two years.  One of Mary Gallagher Murphy's 5 children was my grandmother Mary Muphy who was 15 when she arrived in Cleveland, Ohio in 1883.

My Mary Murphy married my grandfather, James Reddy, in 1898.  They had 3 children, one of which was my father, James Gilbert Reddy, born 1903, died in 1960.

If any of these names sound familiar or part of your family, please advise.   I don't have a real family tree per see but have gathered quite a bit of information on both sides of my family.
