  • If anyone has a baptism record for Maria Jourdan, please post it or post a link to where it might be found. Her marriage to James Canty can be found on the Catholic register for Broadford and Dromcolliher in 1834. I believe the year of her baptism posted here is more likely based on her age at death as stated on her official death record in Victoria, Australia. Information on death records is only as reliable as the knowledge of the person reporting the death. In this case, the VIC BDM Index is showing Mary died in the Geelong area (of Victoria) in 1884 aged 75 which approximates a birth year of 1809. He father is named as Joseph Jordon but her mother's name is unknown to the death informant indicating that they don't know Maria/Mary that well. Her husband had died some years earlier so it may have been one of her children reporting her death and they were not aware of their grandmother's name - not that uncommon. Again, if anyone has any clues about Maria/Mary's origins or her siblings in Limerick, all info welcome.

  • After reading about your Mary Jordan from Dromcolliher earlier on this morning and noting your spelling of Jordan or Jourdan, I came across this record while I was searching (not related) for my own family. I tried to add a screen shot from my snipping tool app but it's not working for me. I think it says Feb 26 1838 is the date of marriage Jacob Egan & ?Honoram Jourdan can't make out the parish, witnesses Joannis Jourdan & Catherine Collins. I have included the link but not sure if it takes you directly to the area on the page.

    Cheers

  • Thanks for the link Dawn. She could be a sister of Maria/Mary and the witness John a brother. I had one Hanora in a tree but she was baptised 1828 so too young for this marriage. I'll add her to the growing list of Jourdan-Jordon-Jordan-Jurdens to be found across Limerick. cheers, Alan
