Maurice Flanagan, born about 1813 in Ireland, married Ellen Riordan on 13 Jun 1847 in Croom, Co. Carlow, Ireland.

Their two eldest daughters, Mary Anne & Margaret were born in Ireland before the family immigrated to the United States in about 1851.

According to the 1860 US Census, the family lived in Ohio Township, Bureau Co., Illinois, where Maurice made his living as a farmer. By the 1870 US Census, the family had moved to Westfield Township, Bureau Co., Illinois, where Maurice worked as a saloon keeper. Maurice became a naturalized US citizen on 5 Apr 1869.

In the 1880 US Census, Maurice's wife, Ellen, is listed as widowed, so Maurice likely died between 1870 & 1880, though no other document has been found to confirm.
