I have his Last Will and Testament Canada

I have very little information on my 3rd great grandfather Michael Hannon. I have no documentation only rumours saying he was from limerick county. He was born around 1805 and married a Elizabeth Mctearnan or Mcterney about 1830. They immigrated to Canada sometime between 1830-1836. Their first son was born in Canada in 1836.

This picture is of his son Mic jr and his wife and family. I'm hoping he looks like his father.

Any information, anything even slightly possible would be welcome. I understand that there are a lot of Hannon's in limerick county. If you had anyone in your family immigrated I would love to know.

From all accounts Michael and Elizabeth had a good life and 8 children. The oldest being my 2nd great grandfather.

I know this is very little information but any help would be wonderful.

Additional Information
Date of Birth 1st Jan 1805
Date of Death 1st Jan 1853

  • Hello!

My 2nd great grandfather is also Michael Hannon, very likely also from Limerick, although I've not been able to confirm this.  He was born in Ireland around the same time as your 3rd great grandfather (sometime between 1805 and 1815) and emigrated to the States (Ohio).  His first son, Michael Hannon, married an Elizabeth Crawley (in Wisconsin), and his first son (John Edward Hannon) is my grandfather.  He moved to Michigan around 1905, met and married my grandmother, Anna M Daly, a member of the prominent Daly family in Dearborn, Michigan.

I don't know if any of this helps but you are correct, most of the Hannons were from the west counties (Clare, Limerick, and Galway).  Happy Searching!

  • Hello,  My Great great Grandfather was named Michael Hannon.  The records my Aunt has found show that he married an Elizabeth Ternier in 1830 in Limerick County Ireland and immigrated to Dummer Twp Peterborough Ontario.  They had 8 children, the oldest Michael born 21 April 1835 who married an Elizabeth  Ann McNeeley.  They had 6 childred.   4 girls and 2 boys.  At sometime Michael I moved some of  his family to Grey County to the hamlet of Badjeros Ontario.  Michael II does not appear to have moved.  My great grandfather was Michael I's number 4 son John who in turn had 8 children.

The story my grandfather told me was Michael I had a disagreement with the Catholic Church and moved away and became a member of the United Methodist Church.  About 4 of  Michael I's grandsons moved to farm around MooseJaw Sask.

Does any of this relate to any information you have in the copy of the will.

Is the boy Leonard the son of James Edward Hannon and a Margaret Wheatley fromm your picture?

Hi, sorry just seeing these posts. Maureen thanks for the information, but unfortunately none of my family, that I am aware of moved to the states. Thanks for taking the time to answer though.

Merle, I do believe we are a match.  Are you on ancestry? You say that your aunt has records, I would be really interested in seeing them. Also yes, Leonard (who was my grandfather) is the boy and his parents were James and Margaret.

My fathers name is also Merle (spelt Mauriel).

I was told that Michaels brothers moved to Bedjoras for work and when Michael Sr. Died his wife moved there to tend house for the single boys.

I am on ancestry if you would like to look me up  there or my email is kimmy.hm1982@gmail.com I would love to hear from you and exchange info

    Kim

  • Does anyone with Hannon relatives from Limerick have a Mary Hannon born around 1815...maybe a sister? She married a Dwyer and emigrated to the US around 1860.
