Michael 'Iron Mick' Curneen 1850

Back to List

Michael Curneen or 'Iron Mick' as he was known, left Glenade, Leitrim in 1867 at the age of 16years old and settled in Del Norte, California.

While there he was a potato farmer and bee keeper. The bees that he kept were known as the 'Curneen Bee'.

He helped build the first School House in Del Norte and he married there with a family of five children.

I was able to make contact with his great-great-great grandson Tom Curneen recently and we have exchanged a lot about him and his life.

He is my wifes 3rd cousin.
