My Paternal Grandfather had a brother called Michael he was born on 14 July 1896. The family lived in the Townland of Gurranaguppal in the Parish of Clondrohid.

I was told that Michael was a great Gaelic Footballer and he actually played for 2 different Parishes Clondrohid and Kilmichael. I was told that one day in 1919 he was playing Football for Clondrohid against Macroom at Macroom Mills.  Sadly during this match he collapsed in a lot of pain.

A local man told me that his two uncles ended up carrying Michael all the way home, a journey of 4 miles. I was told that Michael continued to be in pain and he never left the house after this. Sadly Michael died about a year after this on 9 March 1920 aged 23. His death record states he died from TB of the spine.

My grandfather named one of his sons Michael, in honorific his brother.
