Place of migration
Migrated to/Born in USA

According to Michael's 1909 death certificate, he was born to John and Mary King in 1816 somewhere in County Clare. He was the brother of Jane King and Austin King. The three siblings immigrated to America in 1847 or 1848, all eventually settling in Dubuque County, Iowa by 1850. According to Jane's obituary, their parents also came to America. Jane married Thomas Dardis in New York state soon after her arrival, Michael married Margaret Cooney in Dubuque County, and Austin married Ellen O'Malley in Dubuque County.

It's not known which parish in County Clare the Kings belonged to. However, the fact that Michael's wife was from the parish of Kilshanny in the same county in Ireland that he was from, and Austin's wife was from the parish of Milltown Malbay in the same county in Ireland that he was from - and because those two parishes are both in the central western portion of County Clare - there's a suspicion that the Kings knew these families during their years in Ireland. In other words, this King family may have been in a parish near Kilshanny and Milltown Malbay - such as Kilmanaheen. There were at least three John Kings from the civil parish of Kilmanaheen listed in the Tithe Applotment Books, but there were also numerous other John Kings in the area.
