In the book “ Williamstown/ Templetogher Parish it’s people and Landscape” published by Williamstown Heritage Society, Michael McLoughlin living in Derryvode is recorded as a Tithe payer in circa 1820. However by Griffith’s Valuation in the mid 1850’s the McLoughlin Family have disappeared from Derryvode.
Place of migration
Stayed in Ireland
This gravestone was erected at the time of Michael (McLoughlin) McLaughlin's wife, Ellen Tobin's, death in 1879. The stone is in St. Mary's Cemetery, Norfolk, Litchfield County, Connecticut.
Fortunately Michael and Ellen's 2 married daughters had written on the stone the location of the McLaughlin family's origin in Ireland: Derrywode/Derryvode, County Galway..
My great grandmother was one of those daughters, Mary McLaughlin born about 1829 in Derrywode, Templetoher, near Williamstown, County Galway. She immigrated by way of New York City, and married a man from Knockanara House in Williamstown, Patrick Conneally. Mary McLaughlin Conneally died in 1890 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
