Michael was born in Castlecooke, Cork around 1815. He arrived in New York City on 6 November 1848 aboard the ship Rappahannock from Liverpool. he became a naturalized US citizen on 17 March 1855 in Hartford, Connecticut. Until at least 1860 he lived in Middletown, Middlesex County, Connecticut, where he married Joanna Condon on 26 April 1853 in St John's RC Church. He worked as a foundryman and laborer. He eventually died in New York City on 17 March 1866.
