Orphaned during the famine while living in Limerick City. His youngest brother Thomas drowned in a river near their home as a young child. Michael immigrated to the USA in 1856 and settled in the Senatobia / Coldwater area of Northern Mississippi not far from Memphis, Tennessee. Brother Denis and sister Margaret also immigrated but settled in the New York / Jersey City New Jersey area. Brother Denis present day descendants changed their name to SHANNON. All of Michael's descendants still go by SHANAHAN and live in Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas and points further west.
