Mike Clifford was born in Glenearagh,The Glen on 29th September1886 to Tim Clifford and Mag Sugrue.

He was 3rd in a family of 14. His father Tim came as a cliamhain isteach to the Sugrue household.I had the privilege of interviewing Mike in his home in September 1981. I asked him about his young days growing up in Glenearagh.

"I first attended Portmagee National School up through the hill, 4 miles from the house. After 4 years I changed to The Glen School 4miles also on the other  side of St.Finan's Bay. I finished there at age 13."

Mike told me that after his maternal grandfather died- his grandmother Julian Sugrue(Nee Lyne) and her two youngest sons emigrated to the U.S.A. never again to return. In Mach 1901 Mike, his parents and siblings moved to Kilcoman, 4 miles west of Cahersiveen and took over a farm there.

Three sisters Johanna, Bridget and Peggy were born in Kilcoman.Later Mike took charge of the farm, got married and had 2 sons. His son John still lives on the farm.

Mike died on September 7th 1983 a few weeks shy of 97 years.

A remarkable man with a great memory and a true gentleman.
