Miles Keane

Miles Keane was sentenced in Clare Court  to 7 Years Transportation to Van Diemen's Land. His age was listed as 25.He was sentenced in July 1847 but did not arrive in the colony until 1852 on the Hyberdad 2. He was listed on the ship's log as Miles Keyan/ In 1854 he had completed his sentence and was released. 

He mariied Annie Goerner in 1860 in the Catholic Church in  CampbellTown, Tasmania. A son born in the same year appears not to have survived. In 1862 they have a daughter. Christina, but deserts Annie Goerner. He goes to Victoria and marries again  Harriet Duffy in country Victoria, but is later charged with bigamy and that marriage is anulled, The male child of theis marriage dies at about 4 months.. In 1870 he is reunited with his first and legal wife and they have a son, Patrick Joseph  who appears on the birth register as Cain not Keane. 

His parents are listed on his marriage certificate as Miles Keane and Margaret McNamara.  Court documents name three sisters as being in Clare at the time of his trial as Margaret, Bridget,and Norah After 1870, I can find no record of either him or his family.

In 1874, a brother Michael marries in Koroit, Victoria to a widow, Ellen Ryan Rourke and they have six children. He deserts her in 1886. She describes him as "Tasmanian" with a description that is close to the one given for Miles when he deserts his wife. 1n 1896 Michael Kane as it then appears id found in Hamilton, Victoria. He eventually dies in 1905 after about five years in the Benevolent Hospital in Warrnambool and is buried in Warrnambool, Victoria in an unmarked grave. His death certificate is issued in the name of michael Cain.

Miles and Michael name their parents on marriage certificates as Miles Keane and Margaret McNamarra.  Michael states on each of his children's birth certificates, that HE was born in CambellTown, Tasmania. No records exist to prove this, however there is a Michael Keane arrives in Tasmania aboard the Duchess of Northumberland in 1854.
