Morgan Hayes  ( My great grandfather)

He was baptised in Caherconlish Parish on 3/9/1864 to John Hayes and Margaret (Peggy) Murnane and qualified and worked as a  cooper in Limerick before securing a position, as a cooper, in Guinness' Brewery, Dublin, in 1911. He had married Catherine Coll from Fedamore parish in 1888 who was a cousin to Eamon DeValera's mother who was also a Catherine Coll. The family moved to Dublin and resided at 8 Christchurch Place, beside Christchurch Cathedral and close to his workplace. Guinness' Brewery Archives contain fantastic personal records of all employees

On Easter Monday afternoon he insisted on reporting for work despite the pleadings of his family as he would earn extra for working on a holiday. The rising had commenced and the city centre was a most dangerous place to enter at that time . As he made his way to work he was shot in the chest by a British sniper and died at home soon afterwards. He was buried in Glasnevin Cemetery and his name is inscribed on the commemorative wall erected there in 1916  (see photo)
