Owen was born about February 1841. His father, John Brennan (abt 1810-1869) was from 'the Rosses' (possibly Meenacross). His mother was Hannah Gallagher. By 1857 he had bought a farm at Banganboy. According to the 1872 marriage register, at the time of marriage, Owen was farming at Stracastle.
From 1873 until his death in 1931, Owen owned a farm at Graffy. Owen's wife, Ellen Norah McLoone (1843-1915) was the daughter of James McLoone (1797-1881) Farmer at Mully & Bridget Molloy (1843-1915)
Owen & Ellen had six children:
* John (1873-1933) md. Bridget Timony - dairyman at San Francisco / no issue
* Ann (1875-1945) md. William McMahon - San Francisco / 4 children
* Mary (1877-1951) Raised by Neil McLoone & his sister Grace. md. John McGuire / 2 children
* James (Seamus O'Brennan) (1879-1966) md. Sarah Ward - dairyman at San Francisco / 5 children
* Bridget (1881-1940) md. Hugh Toland - took over the farm at Graffy / no issue
* Hannah 1882-1978 md. John Sylvester Kent - San Francisco, San Andreas & Santa Cruz CA / 6 children
Between 1890-1908 Owen was a warden of the workhouse in Glenties.
He also owned a hotel in Glenties.
