My Great Grandfather John Gorman who migrated to Queensland, Australia in 1864 stated that his parents were Owen Gorman (a labourer), born abt. 1823 and Margaret McDermott born abt. 1825, Roman Catholics from Newtown Butler in Galloon Parish. I have enquired at the parish office when visiting in 2017 but John's birth in 1843 was too early for Baptism records. Owen Gorman's sister Margaret Gorman married John Gunne from the Townland of Kilnacran. Their eldest son Charles' estimated birth year is 1864 and their daughter Ellen's birth is recorded as 13-1-1866. Charles later migrated to Queensland also.
My Great Grandmother Mary Wallace accompanied John Gorman to Australia where they married in Toowoomba, Queensland on 30-1-1866. Her parents were farmers John Wallace and Margaret Cavanagh in Galloon Parish. Griffith Valuation (1864) shows some Wallace tenants in the area but unfortunately we have no record of their home townlands, except for the Gunne family.
